Apollo 16 40th Anniversary It was just 40 years ago when the fifth mission to land humans on the moon launched from Kennedy Space Center on a journey to the lunar highlands. The 11-day mission featured three moonwalks, including a 17-mile lunar rover "road trip" to collect more than 200 pounds of moon rocks to return to Earth. Meet the astronauts of Apollo, learn of the challenges of journeying 250,000 miles from Earth and discover the treasures the moon holds as we mark the 40th anniversary of Apollo 16 on April 14, 2012. Be among the few to have the opportunity to explore Kennedy Space Center on a guided bus tour featuring an Apollo astronaut as tour guide for an up-close visit of Launch Pad 39-A, drive by the Camera A/B Stop, Vehicle Assembly Building, Launch Control Center, Orbiter Processing Facility and complete the tour at the Apollo/Saturn V Center. Following the tour, you will witness a one-of-a-kind panel discussion with Apollo 16 Lunar Module Pilot Charlie Duke, with Apollo 16 back-up crewmembers Fred Haise (Apollo 13 astronaut), and Edgar Mitchell (Apollo 14 astronaut). Each guest will receive an autographed copy of Charlie Duke's book, Moonwalker.
